Job Description

Position Summary:  Assists the Grade School Teacher in planning and implementing activities with school aged children consistent with the curriculum guide, resources and training provided.

Full time: Mon-Fri, 7:30-3:30 pm

Key Responsibilities:
Assists in preparing materials for the class under the direction of the teacher, which may include materials for future lessons or activities, special events, classroom decorations or means for displaying student work.
Prepares audio-visual equipment while the teacher is giving instruction, get computers ready for the students to use, or any other preparation that saves the teacher time and keeps operations running smoothly.
Assists the teacher by grading daily papers, recording students' grades, checking homework, organizing materials, distributing work into individual students' folders or handling routine filing.
Supervises the students as they go to special classes such as art, music or physical education, to lunch or the playground, and to and from the bus.
Helps students understand and follow classroom rules and directions and provides additional help with classwork and physically assists students with any special needs.
Assists the teacher in implementing behavior plans designed by children’s case managers.
Participates in staff meetings and in-service training programs as assigned

Other Duties:
•Performs clerical duties as assigned.
•Supervises students in and out of the classroom.
•Keeps the classroom neat and in orderly.
•Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Knowledge and Skills and Abilities:
•Knowledge of domestic/family violence and the effects on children and families.
•Knowledge and understanding of the Texas DFPS guidelines for daycare centers and NAC accreditation standards.
•Ability to effectively communicate and maintain position relationships with students, teacher and parents.
•Ability to provide individual assistance to students experiencing learning difficulty; explaining errors answering questions, assisting in research, or clarifying directions.
•Ability to successfully pass required Texas DFPS criminal history background check.
•Ability to maintain a positive, calm and encouraging attitude when working with children in the classroom.

Requirements: Child Development Associate (CDA) credentials and two years work related experience in a licensed child care facility or public or charter school.

Licenses and Certifications: Current CPR and First Aid Certification or must be able to take and pass CPR and First Aid within the first 60 days of hire.

Mental and Physical Abilities: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs; Visual acuity is required for child supervision. Repetitive stooping and bending with occasional lifting light to medium is required. Ability to stand and walk for long periods at a time is required, as well as, the ability to run and be able to participate in outside activities.

Working Conditions: Ability to work in a busy and occasionally noisy environment. There may be a number of activities and situations happening at once, and the Teacher’s Aid will have to supervise all children at all times; Work may be performed, but is not limited to a classroom environment.
