Job Description

Position Summary:  To plan, lead, and implement enriching winter and summer break activities that are educational and support social-emotional growth.

Key Responsibilities:
•Assists in planning, developing, and budgeting winter and summer break activities/field trips.
•Organizes summer and winter break activities for school-age children.
•Ensures compliance with all school-age and field trip licensing standards.
•Coordinates and provides transportation during field trips.
•Supervises children and ensures their safety at all times.
•Monitors student well-being and keeps the Director informed of all incidents.
•Builds relationships with school-age students.
•Creates educational lesson plans to reduce academic regression during winter and summer breaks.

Summer Hours:
Summer Day Camp Hours: Monday-Friday, 8-4:30pm with a 30 minute lunch break on the following dates:
May 19th through August 17th

Winter Camp Hours:
8am-4:30pm with a 30 minute lunch break on the following dates:
December 20th, 21st, and 31st
•January 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 7th

Other Duties: Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) in Education or similar OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
 
Licenses and Certifications:
•Valid Texas Driver’s License and clear driving record
•CPR and First Aid

Knowledge and Skills and Abilities:
•Knowledge of the principles and practices of child and youth behavior and development.
•Ability to build and maintain effective mentor and professional relationships with children and youth.
•Ability to communicate effectively with children and the child development staff.
•Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in order to accomplish work in compliance with quality standards and deadlines.
•Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to children.
•Ability to observe children’s behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
•Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
•Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid; Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of children.
•Ability to meet attendance requirements
•Ability to pass a criminal background check and Texas Department of Family and Protective Services background check
•Ability to treat all children with respect and dignity regardless of their race, creed, religion or national origin
•Ability to comply with relevant Licensing Standards

Mental and Physical Abilities: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Visual acuity is required for child supervision. Repetitive stooping and bending with occasional lifting light to medium is required. Ability to stand and walk for a long period at a time is required, as well as, the ability to run and be able to participate in outside activities

Working Conditions: Duties are usually performed in a classroom, outside playground or field trip environment with frequent periods of standing or walking and the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
