Job Description

Responsible for the day to day management, supervision and coordination of programs for the children’s educational services program.

Key Responsibilities:

Staff Management
•Observes each classroom on a weekly basis and observes staff with children and supervises class management skills;
•Develops academic programs and works with Lead Teachers to create instructional and age appropriate resources, weekly learning plans and monthly activities for the classrooms.
•Conducts, at minimum bi-weekly, supervision with staff and maintains monthly outlook calendar to reflect all supervision meetings.
•Manages employee’s overtime, time and attendance and addresses any time and attendance concerns with staff.
•Ensures problems or disagreements with staff are resolved; assists staff in resolving conflicts between parents.
•Interviews and selects employees for open positions; trains employees on policies of the program.
•Works with human resources to manage employee relation issues; prepares and presents mid year and annual performance evaluations and provides feedback and goals; makes recommendations for promotions or internal moves;
•Ensures agency policy and procedures are followed.
•Assures adequate staffing at all times to meet staff/child ratios; reviews schedules and manages time off requests and approves semi-monthly time sheets in a timely manner.

Staff Training
•Facilitates center staff meetings and follows recommended training plan for employees; develops individual and staff training plans in accordance with licensing standards. 
•Schedules and coordinates employee staff meetings and retention building programs.
•Provides monthly training and identifies professional development opportunities for staff.
•Attends regularly scheduled meetings with Dallas ISD Administration, Dallas Afterschool, Educational First Steps, and MDHA Children’s Subcommittee.

Program Management:
•Develops, coordinates and maintains quality programs in the child development center, school age program, learning center and mentor program.
•Plans and makes recommendations for the annual operating budget for all programs; follows budget guidelines, purchase supplies and properly documents all expenditures.
•Establishes standard operating procedures and communicates to staff and parents.
•Assures all federal, state and agency standards and policies are met regarding safety requirements and inspection and certification procedures, and ensures that the center complies with those requirements; performs various record-keeping functions to maintain the operations of the program.
•Confers with parents on a regular basis to discuss the development of their enrolled children; communicates with parents regarding child concerns, special events, conferences or evaluations.
•Works with the food services coordinator to ensure the quality and variety of food is available to the children.
•Prepares and works with Lead Teachers to coordinate summer camp activities and other programs.
•Assures adequate and age appropriate materials and equipment are available and assures that all center equipment and materials are maintained in proper working order; provides for the safety and comfort for children and staff in program.
•Assists in preparing grant applications and gathering monthly statistics.
•Provides support to children’s case managers concerning any behavior problems or developmental concerns or progress.
•Maintains safety standards in every classroom,
•Maintains all state licensing requirements and NAC accreditation standards. Continue ongoing NAC status.

Other Duties:Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Requirements: Master’s Degree in early childhood education with 3 years of experience as a child care director for a licensed facility with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory/management position. Clear criminal background check and clear driving record.

Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Texas Driver’s License
DFPS Licensed Child Care Director License
CPR/First Aid certification

Knowledge and Skills and Abilities:
•Knowledge and understanding of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services and NAC standards.
•Knowledge and understanding of the signs of child abuse or neglect and the proper reporting procedures.
•Knowledge and experience working with a diverse population of children ages 6 weeks to 10 years of age.
•Knowledge and understanding of the effects of domestic/family violence on children and families.
•Knowledge of the principles and practices of managing a child care program and school.
•Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures for child care licensing and school accreditation.
•Knowledge of the principles and methods of child development.
•Knowledge and experience in preparing statistical reports.
•Knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook software.
•Ability to provide constructive intervention activities that reinforce position self image, healthy coping skills, and appropriate expressions of emotions and alternatives to violent behavior.
•Ability to drive a Family Place vehicle in a safe manner to transport children and clients for field trips, etc.
•Skilled at interpreting, applying and explaining rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
•Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
•Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
•Ability to work independently with little direction and plan and organize work.
•Ability to train and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.
•Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with staff, parents, and others.

Mental and Physical Abilities: Demonstrate full range of motion.  Maintain mental and physical alertness and an appropriate level of energy to perform essential job requirements.

Working Conditions: Some duties are performed seated with frequent periods of standing or walking. Limited physical effort is required associated with lifting and carrying objects (less than 25 lbs).  Work may be performed, but is not limited to an office environment.
