Job Description

Position Summary:  Provides and maintains a safe, nurturing environment that promotes learning while supervising children.  Experience working with infants.

Work hours: Monday-Friday, 10am-6pm; full time benefits: health, dental, vision, life, retirement and paid time off.

Key Responsibilities:

Plans and implements weekly activity plans that are developmentally age appropriate to include indoor, outdoor and nature room activities; provides a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play. 
Teaches basic skills such as colors, shapes, numbers, letter recognition and social skills; assesses and observes children’s Kindergarten readiness and prepares notes on daily observations.
Observes children for safety and assessment purposes and maintains child assessment records in a portfolio.
Establishes and maintains ongoing communications with each child and their family.
Supervises and guides children during mealtime, toileting, hand washing, rest periods and play activities.
Keeps the supplies and classroom neat and orderly and maintains a clean and sanitary classroom; organizes and labels materials in a manner that is appropriate for their age and perceptual abilities.
Arranges classroom attractively to encourage involvement, experimentation and creativity by the children.
Sets rules for the classroom and follows rules and regulations of The Family Place Safe Campus.
Consults with Licensed Child Care Administrator about concerns/problems with the children before talking to the parents.
Completes weekly and monthly children’s services on Integrated Tracking System Logs.
Provides training for teaching assistants and volunteers on classroom policy and procedures.
Participates in all staff development activities, in-service training and workshops.
Performs routine clerical duties such as filling, copying, answering phones and managing the CDC front desk.

Other Duties: Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Requirements:
Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field and two years teaching experience in an early care and education classroom.

Licenses and Certifications:
Current CPR and First Aid Certification or must be able to take and pass CPR and First Aid within the first 60 days of hire.

Knowledge and Skills and Abilities:
•Knowledge and understanding of the Texas DFPS guidelines for daycare centers and NAC accreditation standards.
•Knowledge of domestic/family violence and the effects on children and families.
•Ability to successfully pass required Texas DFPS criminal history background check.
•Ability to maintain positive relationships with children, co-workers and parents.
•Ability to work with infants warmly, calmly and in an unhurried way.
•Ability to plan, coordinate and prepare material for a classroom.

Mental and Physical Abilities: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs; Visual acuity is required for child supervision. Repetitive stooping and bending with occasional lifting light to medium is required. Ability to stand and walk for long periods at a time is required, as well as, the ability to run and be able to participate in outside activities.

Working Conditions: Duties may be performed seated with frequent periods of standing or walking. Limited physical effort is required associated with lifting and carrying objects (less than 25 lbs).  Work may be performed, but is not limited to a classroom environment.
