Job Description

Position Summary:  Provides case management and crisis intervention to adult and child victims of violence experiencing homelessness as a result of domestic violence; answers and assesses hotline calls; knowledgeable and understands the effects of domestic violence and homelessness, and provides constructive intervention activities that reinforces healthy coping skills.

Work Hours/Days:    Tuesday, Wednesday, 12:00-8:00pm                     Thursday-Saturday, 9:00-5:00pm

Responsibilities:
•Provides case management services which includes, but not limited to housing, employment, legal and medical referrals.
•Completes intake and orientation of services and discusses safety planning with clients.
•Assists clients in obtaining community services.
•Assesses hotline calls using appropriate crisis intervention techniques; make appropriate referrals as needed.
•Facilitates therapeutic groups using a variety of psychotherapy approaches (e.g. cognitive-behavioral, psycho-educational, client centered) and based on systems theory and domestic violence research.
•Provides court advocacy and court testimony as needed.
•Provides training, supervision and support to volunteers and interns as assigned.
•Represents agency in special groups and community education activities.
•Establishes referral relationships with other agencies to facilitate services.
•Assures client records are accurate and current.
•Assists in providing information for reports or statistical information when requested
•Responds appropriately to emergency situations.
•Works as an integral part of a professional team.
•Participates in in-service training programs and workshops to update professional knowledge
•Attends and participates in case staffings on a weekly basis.
•Maintains current professional knowledge of domestic violence, crisis theory and community resources, including assessments of danger, and resources of direct solution.
•Works assigned schedule with adequate flexibility, may be required to provide support during other hours.

Other Duties: Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Requirements: Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related Human Services field.  One to two years experience in crisis intervention and/or domestic violence issues preferred. 

Licenses and Certifications: Valid and clear Texas Driver’s License

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
•Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence and the impact of children and women experiencing or witnessing abuse.
•Knowledge of community resources and ability to use effectively when preparing and implementing case plans for clients.
•Ability to relate with women and children through understanding, respect and skill communication.
•Ability to evaluate or display insight into individual behavior.
•Ability to follow all safety and precautionary rules and measures.
•Ability to perform work efficiently and effectively under stressful situations.
•Ability to prioritize and self motivate to accomplish job goals.
•Ability to demonstrate effective oral and written communication in working with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and co-workers.
•Ability to apply self-awareness and self-regulation to manage the influence of personal biases and values in working with diverse clients and constituencies.
•Ability to demonstrate ethical and professional behavior, appearance and electronic communication.
•Ability to maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients' treatment.

Mental and Physical Abilities:
•Ability to perform physical task such as stooping, reaching, bending, climbing to interact with clients including children;
•Ability to transport clients in company vehicle, when necessary.
•Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

Working Conditions: Work may be performed in an office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like but not limited to the office environment.  Ability to work evenings and Saturdays.
