Job Description

Position Summary:  Provides male adolescents with BRAVE (Boys Rising Against Violence Everyday) psycho-educational group process classes which addresses abuse, emotions, communication, conflict resolution, gender roles, dating violence and personal accountability.  Facilitates psycho-educational anger management classes for adolescents that teach youth specific skills and ways of thinking to help them cope with anger. Provides psycho-educational groups for adult men and women perpetrators of domestic violence.

Key Responsibilities:
•Facilitates psycho-educational group sessions which processes and addresses abuse, emotions, communication, conflict resolution, gender roles, dating violence and personal accountability.
•Facilitates psycho-educational group anger management classes that teach youth specific skills and ways of thinking to help them cope with anger; ensures participants identify triggers to anger and has the necessary tools to respond in non-aggressive ways.
•Maintains contact and promptly furnishes requested and required information to Juvenile Probation Officers and all other County staff assigned to the Program; grants access to client records and program documentation, as requested by the County.
•Maintains accurate client files that include enrollment and intake assessment forms, individual program plan (IPP), monthly status reports, incident reports, discharge summaries, sign in sheets, telephone contacts, chronological entries, home visits and signed acknowledgement forms.
•Facilitates group sessions for male and female clients utilizing The Family Place approved curriculum components; provides direct services to clients, including intakes, assessments, client orientation and exit sessions.
•Ensures clients are building competency in the skills taught in the curriculum through good communication coaching and referring clients for additional support when needed.
•Maintains a working knowledge of community resources, staying current about the community partnerships and other agency referrals available through the BIPP program.
•Interacts with representatives from the legal/criminal justice system, child protective services, and other referral sources, as required for program effectiveness, treatment coordination and client accountability.
•Maintains accurate group data, including attendance rosters, evaluations, and other reporting documents; administers surveys to support data collection requirements of funding agencies, when necessary; prepares and provides timely progress reports and statistical information.
•Aids in on-going program development and stays current with curriculum updates by participating in the BIPP practice, attending training sessions, participating in peer reviews, and providing feedback to the Program Director and Sr. Director of Community Collaboration regarding the training modules.
•Maintains communication with The Family Place Partner Advocate Program to provide information regarding client’s group attendance, etc., in an effort to increase client accountability and the safety of their partners.
•Assists with answering and screening telephone calls and enrolling clients into orientation and group sessions.
•Offers appropriate referral services and resources for clients, i.e., mental health service providers, housing, employment, etc.
•Attends staff meetings, group supervision and individual supervision, when required, and participates in public education and speaking engagements.
•Protects the confidentiality and integrity of the client’s personal information.

Other Duties:
•Ability to maintain a minimum of twenty hours of continuing education annually, and as required by CJAD-TCFV BIPP guidelines.
•Ability to complete 40 hours of required training by the Dallas Juvenile Department within the first 6 months of hire and continue on-going training as required by the County and TFP BIPP guidelines.
•Follows the approved agency policies regarding client funds for services.
•Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Requirements: Master’s degree in social work, counseling or related field and one year of experience working with adolescent populations, domestic violence and/or child abuse, and group work.

Licenses and Certifications: Valid Texas Driver’s License

Knowledge and Skills and Abilities:
•Knowledge and experience working with victims and/or perpetrators of domestic violence.
•Knowledge and experience in facilitating psycho-educational group work and experience with the Duluth Model preferred.
•Knowledge and intermediate skills working with MS Word, Outlook and an Intranet system.
•Ability to make observations and recognize when interactions, situations or group dynamics change and work to resolve any conflict or disruptive behaviors.
•Ability to research and incorporate new techniques, activities and discussion points into group sessions.
•Ability to consistently work flexible hours, which include weeknights and weekends.
•Ability to work effectively with clients from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. 
•Ability to handle rapid questioning, potential challenging behavior and difficult discussions regarding power and control/gender stereotypes. 
•Proficient in oral and written communication skills.
•Ability to meet deadlines.
•Ability to pass the grant and agency requirements of a criminal background check for the position. 
•Ability to comply with the Juvenile Department’s Media policy.
•Access to and/or the ability to drive a vehicle to the court house or for other appointments or presentations.

Mental and Physical Abilities:Duties are usually performed while standing.  Standing may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) frequently.
