Job Description

Position Summary:  Performs operational accounting duties to effectively support the mission of The Family Place; duties include a variety of accounting activities related to account reconciliations, budget variance analysis and audits.

Key Responsibilities:

Ensures quality reporting through timely and well-documented account reconciliations. 

Records, maintains and reconciles the agency’s fixed assets activities. 

Records and reconciles the agency’s marketable securities. 

Completes the monthly close duties and produces reports as needed in support of the agency’s goals. 

Maintains records and distributes financial statements in a timely and accurate manner. 

Supports financial projections and budget variance analysis. 

Completes audit schedules and supports year-end audit and close as required. 

Cross trains and provides technical advice to other accounting personnel, when necessary.  

Assists with accounts payable/receivable when necessary. 

Other Duties:

Attends on-going training sessions, employee meetings, etc.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned. 

Job Requirements

Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or similar, with a minimum of 12 hours in accounting; 2-3 years of experience performing duties of an accountant with a minimum budget of 13 million dollars; non profit experience preferred, but not required.

Licenses and Certifications: Valid Texas Driver’s License

Knowledge and Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and principles.
• Knowledge of auditing practices and principles.
• Knowledge of intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)
• Skilled at maintaining accurate financial records and preparing clear and accurate reports for informational, auditing and operational use.
• Skilled at handling shifting priorities in a deadline driven environment.
• Ability to reconcile accounts, records, reports and journals.
• Ability to prepare financial and/or auditor statements, schedules and reports.
• Ability to interpret, apply and explain complex laws, codes and regulations.
• Ability to review and verify accuracy of data.
• Ability to make sound, independent judgments within established polices and procedures.
• Ability to organize own work, set priorities and meet critical deadlines.
• Ability to communicate to interact effectively with co-workers, managers, and the general public sufficient to convey information and to receive work direction.

Mental and Physical Abilities: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, strength to lift and carry files weighing up to 10 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.

Working Conditions: Duties are usually performed seated with occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited physical effort is required associated with lifting and carrying objects (less than 25 lbs). Work may be performed, but is not limited to an office environment.
